Since January 2025 I decided to leave X for joining Bluesky, due to some nazi salute performed by someone very close to the former social network. They look pretty much the same from an aesthetic point of view, but at the core they are the opposite: bluesky is based on the AT Protocol that allows users to have complete control on their own data. In simple terms, data are stored in a server, called Personal Data Server (PDS) and users can decide to transfer them from a provider to another or even self host them, in order to get full control on them. I am now thinking about also moving my github account on tangled.sh, also based on the AT Protocol and I am wondering if transfering my PDS from bluesky to tangled, or even self-host it. I feel like my journey toward full-control is just at the beginning and may continue with all those services that are making the presence of ads more and more intrusive: music is the next one.
